16 Pioneer and Guide
Greensleeves - Vaughn Williams and Tallis.
Improvisations around a theme by Thomas Tallis.

.

This is
such a simple prayer,
Lord,
but one that encompasses so much:

When bruising bouts
of loneliness
linger at my door,

let greater longing for You
enable me to turn them
into shafts of
secluded solitude

where we
can feast together
on the riches
of Your love.

Lord, every day multitudes are being born again into your Kingdom,
nurseries of spiritual babes in search of spiritual food.

Breathe your life into the homes and fellowships where they are nurtured,
singing over them the precious song of the Lamb
and over their fathers and mothers in Christ.

As you draw near to entreat Me now,
remove the shoes from your feet

Wait for the Lord

Be of good cheer and wait for Me.

I will strengthen your heart
and you will see My goodness in the land of the living

Come into My courts
and the places where I meet with you:

  The strength of the hills,
the shade of the trees,
where green leaves
breathe fresh peace
within your soul.
Yes, come to the blessed places
where My Spirit brings rest
and wisdom swiftly flows.

Only keep your heart free from the false assumptions
that presumption would induce,
for I cannot take responsibility
for what I have not commissioned.

I, who suspend the earth over nothing,
am treating you as friends.

Since I delight to sustain you,
and all that pertains to you
refuse Me nothing that I ask:
for although tomorrow’s seas may seem as uncharted as yesterday’s,

I will lead you safely on.

As you sail beneath the starry sky ask yourselves,
‘what dreams have I your Lord placed within your heart’?

Others may have asked that question before,
but I am the God Who dreams.

I dream of a people for My own possession
from every far flung tribe and nation,
and you, My spiritual descendants,
who reflect My likeness and speak My truth,
are sharing this long dreamed plan,
despite the barriers deep within,
and thus you are contributing to redeem the fall of man.

Where there are no specific precedents
to match the place you find yourself in,
let me be your Pioneer and Guide.

Even if you stumble fall and want to hide,
the secret of saintship is to follow My example in reaching out
to attempt new things, no matter how hard, for love of Father God.

You were made to dream creative dreams.
What is formed and fashioned on your knees
must take external form
if it is to assume its full and final shape.

It is those who most fully yield their will
who find the fulfilment of My plans.
Step outside your dreamboat,
feel the current beneath your keel,
and let it draw you ever on.

Don’t be afraid to dream upstream;
and then set forth from this treasured scheme.

But if these dreams are all on hold,
allow Me to comfort you through
as the waters cream around you.
